Sip n’ Pretty

No. 03 · The Story

A mother. A daughter.
A café behind the curtain.

since 2024, on Furneaux Lane

The boutique came first.

Years before there was a café, there was Wehi Boutique, a small clothing shop in Honokaʻa with a single mission: making the women of Hawaiʻi feel as beautiful as the islands they call home. Wehi opened it the way most things on this island get built: with one woman’s taste, her family’s labor, and the steady patience of people who don’t give up on small towns. The shop became a place. A reference point. A name people said when someone needed a muʻumuʻu for a graduation, a lei for a baby, a gift that wasn’t from the airport.

Then Hilo. A new storefront on Furneaux Lane, a quiet downtown block one street back from the bay. More space. A second location. And, tucked into the back of the new boutique, a small bar, a glossy espresso machine, a pink scalloped counter with Sip n’ Pretty in cursive script along the front. The café was the daughter’s idea.

II. The Daughter

Barista by day. Designer by night.

Ani

Ani didn’t want to open a copy of every other coffee shop. She wanted a place that felt like the women who came in. So the menu got rewritten in their names. The first signature drink was the Wehi, white mocha, cinnamon, almond milk, whipped cream, soft and warm, for her mother. The second was the Ani, golden with O‘ahu honey lilikoʻi cold foam, for herself. Then came the Hicarpenter, the Fancy, the Bri, the TT, the Lacie, each one a regular who ordered her own custom drink so many times it earned a permanent spot on the board.

The drinks are the menu. The names are the family. The syrups are the islands.

III. The Pantry

Built from these islands.

  • ʻAlaea Sea Salt, from Hawaiian salt ponds where the brine pulls the red clay up into the crystal. We pair it with caramel.
  • Hāmākua Mac Nut, macadamia from the coast just up the highway, toasted, blended into our white mocha syrup for the Bri.
  • Oʻahu Honey Lilikoʻi, beekeepers’ honey, passion fruit pulp, poured into the cold foam that crowns the Ani.
  • Koʻolau Coconut, toasted coconut syrup from the windward range, the base of Lacie’s Latte.
  • Lāʻie Vanilla, soft, floral, slow.
  • ʻŌlena Pineapple, turmeric pineapple. For when you want the cup to look like the morning sun.

IV. The Philosophy

No decaf.

We pour full-caffeine espresso only. Every shot is crafted for maximum flavor and energy. If you want a beautiful cup without the buzz, order Fancy’s Drink, caffeine-free dark chocolate, half-and-half, chocolate walls, whipped cream, and forgive us the rest of the menu.
